Petrol-İş is a union organized in the sectors of petrol, chemistry, rubber,
pharmaceuticals, plastic, cosmetics, and natural gas. The number of members
is approximately 25 thousand, and 1570 of them are women. Women are mostly
in the fields of pharmaceutics and cosmetics.
Petrol-İş Women’s Journal is issued by Petrol-İş Union. Launched in January 2003, it is issued bimonthly. Five thousand copies are issued for each issue. Subscriber women and their spouses from Petrol-İş Union receive the journal. Our reader list includes unions, women’s NGOs, women’s studies departments of universities and academics who study women’s issues. The objective for the publication of the journal is to include women and their spouses into the union struggle through their concrete problems.
The journal serves as the women studies department of the union. We organized 8 of March activities, gender seminars in representative trainings, reproductive health seminars for women members. We are internationally represented in EMCEF (European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers’ Federation) and ICEM (International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers’ Unions).We are a member of ICEM Women’s Commission.
