WE DO NOT ACCEPT THE SUSPENSION OF WOMEN’S ORGANIZATIONS – NOVEMBER 2016

Women’s organizations are our historical gains. We do not accept their suspension.

The activities of several women’s associations, which are against any form of social inequalities as well as gender inequalities and are working in the field of violence against women, have been suspended by the latest statutory decree.

Among them being members of KEİG Platform; Selis Women’s Association and Van Women’s Association and other sister women’s organizations.  We believe that, from a democratic perspective for an egalitarian society, such an enforcement is unacceptable and we are strongly condemning such an attempt to silence women’s organizations.

The measure of state of emergency (OHAL) is utilized as an excuse for confiscating women’s organizations which are historical gains of women. We are in support of the fundamental rights of association and freedom of speech that is necessary for a diverse and equal society. We, as Women’s Labor and Employment Initiative (KEIG), are announcing that we will keep being in solidarity with our members and as well as other women’s organizations which have been closed down.

Up with women’s solidarity!
